Public School, a site specific installation, is made up of eight life size drawings on 4×8 foot panels that encircle a room creating a kind of static zoetrope. The drawings were copied from a high school science text illustrating the evolution of human beings from a ape into a 20th century Anglo-Saxon man wearing glasses. In the center of the space, a microphone from the 1940’s or 50’s on a mic stand invited the viewer to approach and speak, but as the viewer approached sound came out of the microphone from a speaker embedded in it. The microphone speaks occluding the possibility of the viewer speaking.
